Comment Length Limit

If you encounter a character length issue when posting a comment, then it may have to do with the web browser that you are using. Character length is unfortunately a limitation of the web browser. The max character length for versions of Internet Explorer is around 3,000, while Mozilla Firefox is around 7,000, although this may fluctuate depending on several variables.

Because of the way web browsers work, the only way comments can be posted in IntenseDebate is by including it in the URL of a script tag (we use JavaScript for this). IntenseDebate dynamically adds a script tag with all of the comment data in the URL, so all of the comment data has to fit in the script of the URL. All browsers limit the length of the script, so that can cause the issue you encountered.

This is something that we’re working to improve. In the meantime, please try using a different web browser like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari.

If you receive the messages: “Your comment is awaiting moderation” or “your comment has been deleted by the administrator”, then your comment has been removed by the admins for their approval. This is set by the website administrator.

Please note: IntenseDebate is commenting software, and we do not have anything to do with managing the comments. This is done by the site admins only. They decide which comments are displayed and which comments are removed. Please feel free to get in contact with the site admins with any content disputes. You’ll be able to contact them if they have a “Contact Us” area on their site. If you’re unable to get in contact with them, then please contact us and include the web address of the site you’re trying to comment on, along with your username, and we will forward your request to the website administrators.
